A bed device has a pivotably mounted backrest part for supporting a bed occupant in different angular positions in relation to the bed floor surface. There is a need to be able to place a bedpan under the bed occupant and to be able to remove a used bedpan easily and simply from the underside of the bed occupant. In this connection, it is favourable to be able to arrange the bed occupant in a sitting position on the bedpan. By equipping the backrest part 14 with an extra and separate readjustable backrest board 25, which is pivotably mounted on the head section of the backrest part, the bed occupant can be easily lifted up from the bed support with a view to placing the bedpan beneath the bed occupant and with a view to removing the bedpan from the underside of the bed occupant. Using the pivotably mounted backrest part, the bed occupant can be easily readjusted from recumbent position to sitting position on the bedpan, and vice versa. <IMAGE>
