<p>The dredger is suitable for the maintenance of relatively deep navigable channels. It utilises a sectioned pivoting submersible boom. The section size is dictated by overland transit gauges. The sections incorporate ballast chambers to give the boom bouyancy. This reduces overturning moments on the support vessel. The vessel and the boom both have a long legged 'U' shape in plan. The former has a crane by which the boom is manipulated, and the latter a breaker tool with a pipe by which dredged material is sucked to the surface. The pipe has a suction inlet with a discharge outlet. A motor pump is used to provide suction. Winches and cables are used to pilot the vessel, with pneumatics to control the quantity of water in the ballast compartments.</p> |
