Chuck for automatic lathe - has stack of disc springs to ensure release of workpieces with wide dimensional tolerances

An automatic lathe has a chuck for gripping round bar material, and can accommodate a wide tolerance of bar dimensions. The chuck is released by axially sliding the sleeve (5) so that its tapered bore allows the levers (4) to swing radially outwards and operate the release mechanism. The levers (4) are actuated by a thrust ring (12) which is subjected to the axial force exerted by a stack of disc springs (10). The force of these springs (10) can be adjusted by a nut (15) which is screwed onto the inner clamping tube (8).
