Disinfection, fumigation, deodourisation of rooms and hospital wards is carried out by means of an electrically heated vapouriser contg. impregnated pads. The vapouriser comprises a base section which is connected to a power supply for electric heating elements used to warm impregnated rings located on a central boss extending from the base up into the container; the container top is covered with a rotatable cap having an annular skirt with a slot circumferentially aligned with another slot in the container wall, so that the two slots can be brought progressively into coincidence by rotation of the cap which, pref. simultaneously regulates a rheostat in the heating circuit. The rate of vapour release is controllable over a wide range.
