In a steering lock device which is capable of locking the steering shaft of a motor vehicle when a rotor of an ignition key cylinder takes "LOCK" position, an electromagnetically operated plunger is projected into a recess formed in the rotor to prevent the rotor from rotation toward the "LOCK" position when the vehicle is at moving.
