The jam-proof bridge lifting equipment for inland-navigating ships combines lifting with guidance by using telescoping tubes operated by internal hydraulic jacks, connected in parallel. The outer tube is mounted in the ship's structure, while the inner is secured to the bridge at the side. Two such units are fitted, staggered relative to the centreline. At the top, one has a pin-ended support, while the other has an arrangement permitting sideways movement. In both cases a resilient link is emobided in either the top or the bottom connection.
