Electrically conductive pyrochlore compounds having the formula: A2B2O7-y wherein A is selected from lead, bismuth and mixtures thereof, B is selected from ruthenium, iridium and mixtures thereof, and 0</=y</=1 are made by reacting A and B cations in the required substantially stoichiometric from an aqueous solution source of these cations in a liquid alkaline medium having a pH of at least about 13.5 in the presence of an oxygen source which is sufficient only to complete the desired stoichiometry. The reaction is conducted at a temperature below 200 DEG C for a sufficient time for reaction and precipitation of the pyrochlore compound to occur. |
