Nitrphenoxy cpds. of formula ROCH2CHOHCH2NHX (I), including optical isomers, and their salts are new: (R is nitrophenyl substd. by one or more halo, 1-4C alkyl, and/or 1-4C alkoxy gps. X is 5C opt. unsatd., linear, branched, or cyclic hydrocarbyl). (I) have high beta-adrenergic blocking activity and inhibit blood platelet aggregation. They are prepd. e.g. by reacting XNH2 with a cpd. (III) or ROCH2CHOHCH2Hal (where Hal is Cl, Br or I. Reaction is at elevated temp., opt. in presence of a solvent and acid binder.
