1319610 Folding beds; mattresses; bags H OETIKER 30 Dec 1970 61843/70 Headings A4G A4J and A4M A folding bed comprises side and end members 10 connected by corner plates 20, the side members being in two parts pivotally connected at 40 and all the members having a series of equallyspaced holes 11, a fabric sheet 100 with spaced holes along its edges, and springs 105 engaging corresponding holes in the frame and the sheet to hold the sheet taut. In the form shown, the members 10 are of standard angle section, and the corners are strengthened by angle pieces 30; bars 70, which may be of angle section, are attachable to the side members 10, spanning the hinges 40, to prevent folding of the frame when desired. Legs 50 and cord handles 130 are provided. All the members are detachably connected by pins with circumferential grooves engaged by spring clips, as described in Specification 1288840. The bed may be converted into a stretcher by the addition of handles 202, each having a hooked end 203 for insertion into one of the holes in the top of a side member 10 and having also a plate 204 with a hole which aligns with holes in the corner of the frame for securing to the frame by a removable pin. Opposite side members 10 are connected, near the hinge 40, by members 80 of shallow U-shape with diagonal bracing, Fig. 2 (not shown), the ends of these members entering holes in the top flanges of the members 10 and being secured by nuts. A mattress cover 300 of plastics-lined fabric covers the top and sides of the bed in normal use, the handles 130 of the bed passing through slits 301 in this cover. When the bed is folded about the hinges 40, the two halves of the bed abut to enclose a space in which bedding can be stored, and the mattress cover 300 is turned plastics side outwards to form a case for the bed, Fig.8 (not shown), with peripheral sliding-clasp fastenings 303, 304, an end fastening 302, and flaps 306a, 306b with press-stud fastenings for additional security. The cover may be made loose enough to provide storage space between it and the folded bed. |
