Fabricated composite pipe flange - uses two rings to form hollow flange, welded onto intermediate flange around pipe end

The method of forming a fabricated flange on a tube (7) includes forming an out-turned short flange on the end of the tube and welding the main flange on it. The latter consists of two U section rings (1, 2) with their edges butting, thus forming a hollow section composite ring shaped flange. The inner ring (2) has a stepped surface with the inner part (2') higher than the outer part. This part is attached to the tube by a corner weld (11). The outer ring is seared to the small flange by another weld (12). Other designs use interlocking U section flange halves welded to an intermediate L-section flange in turn welded onto a plain pipe end.
