The coupling system comprises elements which control the transmission ratio and/or the coupling condition of a spring (3). It comprises a housing (2) carrying an input shaft (5), an intermediate shaft (1) and an output shaft (4). Shafts (5, 1) are coupled via two opposed-action one-way couplings (6, 7), and similar couplings are arranged between shaft (1) and housing. Shafts (1, 4) are connected via a spring (3). The shaft (4) and/or shaft (5) has a torque sensor whose output signal, together with that of a variable set point signal, is directly or indirectly connected to a comparator which directly or indirectly activates the one-way couplings.
