<p>Apparatus and method for generating electrical power utilizing a stream of free flowing fluid wherein an impeller is turned by the fluid flow. The impeller is attached to a generator to produce electrical power. Apparatus increases efficiency by allowing fluid outside the apparatus (Fig. 6) to flow unrestricted from the inlet to the outlet. At the outlet the fluid is deflected by a wall (118). The deflecting angle is between 35 and 75 . The fluid inside the apparatus flows parallel to the outer fluid in the portion that contains the impeller. When designed for operation underwater, buoyancy chambers (124) are sized and positioned to negate gravitational stresses and distortions. </p> |
