The rotary transducer for position measurement is normally used in conjunction with a cylindrical rectifying machine for auto-calibration of the machined article. It may comprise one or two axes of rotation (2) each carrying an arm (3) whose particular feature is that the free end carries a measurement key (4) of cylindrical shape (preferably a cylinder of revolution) with generatrices parallel to the axis of rotation (2). Thus, the measurement of diameters of articles (5) is independent of the precision of relative positioning of the transducer with respect to the article, the article (5) no longer having its axis (6) parallel to the axes (2). This eliminates the precision constraints imposed on the linear bearings of radial translation mechanisms supporting the transducer. <IMAGE>
