摘要 Rotor consists of a turbine wheel and a compressor wheel, and is made as a monolithic, homogeneous component using a silicon ceramic, e.g. Si3N4 or SiC. Pref. Rotor has a common central disc for the turbine blades and the compressor blades, and is made resp. by injection moulding. In the pref. mfg. process, a ceramic powder, viz. Si, SiC, or Si3N4, is mixed with a thermoplastic; and injection moulding of the mixt. is used to make the rotor, which is heated at ca. 600 degrees C to burn out the thermoplastic Siliconrotor is then nitrided at 1100-1500 degrees C; whereas a rotor made of SiC or Si3N4 is sintered at 1900-2300 degrees C. As compared with metal rotors, this rotor has low wt. and therefore low moment of inertia. It is very simple to mfr. Rotor is driven by exhaust gas from an IC engine, and precompresses the air used in that engine.
