A radial tyre with a carcass and a tread has an intermediate structure between the two, consisting of at least two superposed layers of metal filaments parallel to one another, but inclined at opposite angles of 15-35 degrees to the equatorial plane of the tyre, each lateral edge of the structure having at least one layer of textile filaments which are heat shrinkable, the width of the textile layer being less than that of the structure, but extending beyond its ends, the inner sides being closer together than the width of the structure and inclined at a smaller angle. The use of the special textile reinforcements supports the edges of the tyre, reducing concavity at high speeds while offering a comfortable ride at normal speeds. The axial distance between the outer edges of the textile layer is pref. 103-110% of the structure width, and the distance between their inner edges 35-60%. The angular inclination of the filaments is pref. 0-5 degrees to the equatorial plane of the tyre. Opt. textile layers may be included on both sides of the metal filament layers. The metal reinforcement may be of mult-filament cords of e.g. steel and the textile reinforcement of nylon. |
