In a cathode-ray tube provided with first deflecting means and with second orthogonal deflecting means further from the electron gun in the form of a pair of opposed parallel plates 6 and 7, a plurality of elongate longitudinallyextending strips are provided at each side of the gap between the plates to reduce charges on the wall of the envelope or to screen the beam from such charges. The plates are provided with flanges, as shown, and strips 11 and 12 are attached to a wall anode 8 maintained at a potential equal to the mean potential of the plates 6 and 7. The strips 11 and 12 may be provided by wall coatings. The tube shown is a vidicon and comprises an electron gun 1, two pairs of deflecting plates 2 and 3 which also provide focusing in one direction, a diaphragm 4 including a mesh 5 which acts with the plates 6 and 7 to provide focusing in the other direction, and the electrode 8 and mesh 9 which form a lens to bring the deflected beam into normal incidence on to the target 12. |
