PURPOSE:A specific bacterium mold is cultured to produce a non-, 2-, 6- and/or 8-substituted purine arabinoside that is used as antiviral and antitumorigenic agents. CONSTITUTION:The reaction between a non- or 2-, 6- and/or 8-substituted purine deoxyliposide or deoxylipotide and a arabinose donor as cytosine arabinoside, cytosine arabinotide, uracil arabinoside or uracil arabinotide is effected by the action of a microorganism, such as Pseudomonas stutzeri(FERM-P4170), Flavobacterium rhenaum (CCM298), Achromobacter lactium (CCM69), Salmonella typhimurum (FERM-P3753), Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATCC9621), Erwinia amylovara (CCM1017), to produce the objective purine arabinoside. |
