PURPOSE:To obtain an activated carbon compsn. with superior heat resistance, water resistance and mechanical strength without lowering the adsorption power of activated carbon by mixing a compsn., into activated carbon, contg. a clay mineral having active hydroxyl groups on the surface and convertible into Mg, Al and Si oxides by heating and by calcining the mixt. CONSTITUTION:Activated carbon is mixed with a compsn. contg. 10-95wt% of the above clay mineral as a solid component and convertible into Mg, Al and Si oxides by heating at above 850 deg.C so that the ratio of the compsn. becomes above 5wt%. The ratio of Mg, Al and Si in the compsn. is within the range bounded by the line connecting A point (34;33;33), B point (36;12;52), C point (7;18;75) and D point (4;54;42) in the figure as MgO, Al2O3 and SiO2by wt. The mixt. is then calcined to obtain an activated carbon compsn. By contacting gaseous org. cpd.-contg. gas to this compsn. the cpd. can be removed effectively. |
