1305922 Synthetic resins DR BECK & CO AG 16 Feb 1970 [18 Feb 1969] 19305/72 Divided out of 1305921 Heading C3R Solvent-free resins capable of being electrostatically sprayed are prepared by reacting in the absence of water a polyether having an equivalent weight of 60 to 2000 and an OH functionality of 2 to 6, a thixotropic agent, a compound which accelerates the polyaddition reaction between OH and NCO groups, an isocyanate and a monoalcohol having a boiling point of 80‹ to 220‹ C. The reaction mixture may also include a homo- and/or co-polymerizable monomeric compound of boiling point 120‹ to 180‹ C. and a polymerization initiator and a polymerization accelerator for the monomeric compound, a filler, pigment, a substance acting to increase the electrical conductivity of the resin formed, a siccative material and a fireproofing and/or a fire-retarding agent. The polyether may be used in conjunction with up to 60% by weight thereof of another hydroxyl groupcontaining material conventionally used in the polyurethane art, e.g. a polyester. The thixotropic agent is suitably a high-dispersal silicic acid. Suitable monoalcohols are butanols, pentanols, hexanols, heptanols, octanols, benzyl alcohol, methyl benzyl alcohol, the monomethyl ether of ethylene glycol, the mono-ethyl ether of ethylene glycol, ethylene glycol monoacetate, propylene glycol monoacetate and cyclohexanol Coatings may be produced from the solvent-free resins.
|
