In a two-stage cooling process, the quenched gas is washed with a mixt of high b.pt oil (which is re-circulated through the washing tower) and lower b.pt oil (which is vapourised and passes with the gas to the second stage). Here it is cooled by indirect heat exchange, the oil is condensed and re-circulated to the washing tower. Heat absorbed by the coolant is used elsewhere e.g. in a steam boiler. By vaporising and condensing part of the wash oil, the heat is extracted at higher temp e.g. sufficient to generate steam at 25. atm. instead of 10 atms.
|
