Process for the manufacture of diphthaloyl peroxide

Diphthaloyl peroxide is prepared by reacting phthalic anhydride with aqueous hydrogen peroxide. In order to increase the yield of this reaction, the process comprises the stages of the formation of a sludge or mobile paste containing phthalic anhydride as particles and aqueous hydrogen peroxide, maintenance of the sludge or the paste in the mobile state until at least a small amount of diphthaloyl peroxide is formed and then the separation of the diphthaloyl peroxide from the aqueous phase.
