The spherules have a diameter of 100 to 50,000 ANGSTROM and consist of molecular layers of nonionic amphiphilic lipid compounds capable of being dispersed in water. They enclose an aqueous phase to be encapsulated. Since the lipid compounds employed are nonionic, the spherules have an electrically neutral outer surface, and this can be advantageous when the aqueous phase to be encapsulated contains pharmacologically or cosmetically active substances. To prepare such a dispersion, a polyoxyethylenated sorbitol trioleate ("Tween 85") is mixed with an aqueous solution of sorbitol, and then an aqueous solution of a polyacrylic acid crosslinked with polyallylsucrose ("Carbopol 934") is added, and vigorous agitation is applied.
