The pesticide is a shaped article of a water-insoluble organic solid substance in which one or more finely-divided metal phosphides are embedded. Metal phosphides which are preferably used are aluminium phosphide and/or magnesium phosphide. The abovementioned shaped article is coated on one or more sides with a fibre substance which is permeable to water vapour and where at least some of the fibres lead up to the embedded phosphide particles. The pesticide can be used for fumigating rooms in which cereals, tobacco and general and luxury foods are stored. The phosphine which is developed destroys all pests.
