The traction coupling for road vehicles has the coupling pin actuated pneumatically to close the coupling. The double acting actuating cylinder (6) for coupling pin (5) has its piston parallel to the coupling pin. The latter has a guide (4) leading the pin in transverse direction into the gap between the traction coupling holding jaws. The free end of the piston is connected to the coupling pin end by a profiled member (8) which slides in a slot of the pin guide.
