An olefin sulfonate detergent composition containing, as active ingredients, a mixture consisting essentially of (a) 25 to 75 parts by weight of a sulfonate of a straight chain a-olefin represented by the general formula RI - CH = CH2 wherein RI is an alkyl radical of 12 to 20 carbon atoms, and the average number of bonded SO3 radicals of said sulfonate is 1.05 to 1.7, and (b) 75 to 25 parts by weight of a sulfonate of a vinylidene olefin represented by the general formula WHEREIN RII and RIII each is an alkyl radical of one to 19 carbon atoms and the sum of the carbon atoms of RII and RIII is 12 to 22, and the average number of bonded SO3 radicals of said sulfonate is 1.05 to 1.7.
