The invention relates to a process for the external cylindrical grinding of a plurality of different diameters (11 to 14) of a workpiece (10) in a mount (3, 4). A measuring head (5) continuously measures the actual value of a single diameter. Before a further diameter is finish-ground, the floor stand grinder (6) being fed by a control means, the diameter scanned by the measuring head is ground in each case and the control means for the floor stand grinder feet is calibrated. The relative, radial position of the grinding wheel (7) is thus checked again and again, and the control means thereof is calibrated before a diameter ground by non-measurement-control is finish-ground. <IMAGE>
