Split rotor type pump - has auxiliary impeller at delivery end to produce axial thrust to balance impeller thrust

The pump has an impeller on the shaft extension of a rotor. The rotor is enclosed by a sleeve and is within the liquid space. A part of the liquid flows to the non pump end through a bore through the rotor and returns through the gap between the rotor and the sleeve. This circulation is established by an auxiliary impeller at the non pump end. The back plate of the auxiliary impeller carries radial blades. A stator plate is fixed close to the outer edge of these. The blades and stator plate produce an axial thrust which balances the axial thrust of the main impeller.
