The fastening system for a carrier for a fluroescent lamp uses two latch arms (7) which are rotated through a half turn to lock the carrier onto a bracket attached to the ceiling each arm is rotated inside a nut (13) mounted on a plate (4) which projects down from one end of the bracket (3). The arm is formed by a finger grip mounted on a spindle (6) which has a series of openings (9 to 12) pierced through it, with the nut mounted at the innermost opening (9). Part (14) of the stem of the spindle is square which is rotated against tongues (14) bent from the material of the plate (4), giving a tensioning action. The innermost end (6a) of the spindle is threaded to screw into the nut. A plate (8) behind the finger grip is circular, and its edge can be flanged.
