A flexible balloon shell (2) incorporates a rigid peripheral area structure with one or more air locks (44-47), in the air-supported hangar-type building. Retainers are used to hold the bottom peripheral area to the ground. The rigid structure is mounted on one or more single-axled chassis units (12), and is fitted with blowers for inflating the shell. The chassis superstructure can have a receptacle chamber (80) for the folded shell attached to it, and also a series of airlock devices sited close together.
