Beta-nicotinyl-p-chlorophenoxy-alpha-isobutyric acid - hydrochloride - hypocholestertlaemic and vasodilatating agent

Title cpd. of formula: is prepd. by reaction of p-Cl-phenoxy-alpha-isobutyric acid with ethyl chloroformate at 0 degree in the presence of NEt3 or NBu3 in benzene to give the mixed anhydride: which is then reacted with beta-nicotinol and HCl gas is passed into the soln. to ppt. the hydrochloride. The product exerts the hypocholesterolaemic action of Me p-Cl-phenoxy-alpha-isobutyrate (Clobibrate) together with the vasodilating action of beta-nicotinol.
