The protector (6) is intended for covering the engine filter (1) of a motor vehicle whilst in an automatic car wash installation. It consists of a sheet, pref. made of plastics foil, which covers the filter and the air intake grille (4). The width of the sheet is such that it can be clamped (8) in the crack (3) of the bonnet (2) and/or held, via holes, on the windscreen wiper shaft bearings (5). It is pref. made of a durable material suitable for repeated use.
