The manifold-fed waste gas flares safety device is fitted between the line safety valve and the manifold inlet (23). It comprises two axial telescopic stub tubes (4, 5) with a stuffing-box and gland seal (7). Radial struts (13) in the outer tube carry a spherical cover (6) for the mitred end face of the inner which embodies a groove (15) with a sealing ring (16). To bring the two together the inner tube must be detached from the safety valve and pulled into the outer, by screwing bolts (17) passing through a flange (20) encircling the latter into holes (18) in legs (19) projecting from the former's connection flange (12).
