PURPOSE:To prepare the title substance having an effective anti-cancer action, industrially advantageously through fermentation, by collecting a mucilaginous mucopolysaccharide having the anti-cancer action from a culture of microorganisms which belong to the genus Achromobacter. CONSTITUTION:Strains of microorganisms Achromobacter alcoholyticus which belong to the genus Achromobacter, are inoculated into a liquid medium at a pH of 6.8-7.2, and cultured at 25-30 deg.C under the conditions of an air flow rate of 0.1-1l/l/min, and an agitation speed of 60-200rpm for 4-10days. The bacterium bodies are removed from the culture, and low-molecular sugars, amino acids, nucleic acids, inorganic salts, and then contaminating free proteins are eliminated by centrifugation, dialysis, etc. to give a mucilaginous mucopolysaccharide having an anti-cancer action positive to the anthrone sulfuric acid, Molisch, orcinol, ninhydrin, biuret, and copper-Folin reactions. |
