<p>PURPOSE:To accomplish the correct tests without reducing the intrinsic breaking capability of a test breaker by applying an arc elongating current, before the breaking current passes a zero point, thereby to elongate the arc in a smooth manner. CONSTITUTION:When it is intended to open a test breaker 1 through which a current 7 is supplied from a power source 3, a closer 14 is so operated that an arc elongating current 21, which is determined in its rise time by an inductance 11 and a resistor 12 while having the same direction as that of the current 7, is made to flow at the time in the vicinity of the maximum from the capacitor 13 of the arc elongating circuit having been charged. In order to instantly commutate the current 21 in the opposite direction into a current 27, the conditions of Equations (1) and (2) are satisfied when the inductance 17 of the circuit itself of the current 27 is denoted at L1, the resistance 18 at R1, the whole inductance 11 of the circuit of the current 21 at L2, the whole resistance 12 at R2, the electrostatic capacity of the capacitor 13 at C, its charge voltage at V, and the level of the current at I. Thus, it is possible to correctly test the breaking capability of the test breaker.</p> |
