The device provided with a transfer beam (1) allows sleepers (10) to be taken up at a given, existing spacing and to be laid on the track subgrade at another spacing. For this purpose, the sleeper carrier beams (3) are arranged to be longitudinally displaceable via rollers (2). For the purpose of taking up the existing sleepers (10), the sleeper carrier beams (3) are pushed back to a spacing preselected via the stop bolts (4). After the sleepers (10) have been taken up, the sleeper carrier beams (3), which are connected loosely to one another by means of chains (6), are successively drawn apart from one another, by means of the adjusting device (7) secured on the first beam (3), and are brought to the set-down spacing determined by the chain length. <IMAGE>
