1378956 Liquid fuel burners MALLEYS Ltd 2 March 1972 [4 March 1971] 9882/72 Heading F4T A vaporizing liquid fuel burner comprises a hollow body 10 having at the top thereof a centrally located throat 12 defined between opposed longitudinally extending walls 107, and vertical side walls 103, 104 joined to the throat walls by inwardly converging top portions 106 and each provided with rows of holes 42-45 for the restricted inflow of primary combustion air, each of the throat walls 107 being provided with at least one row of holes 48 for the restricted inflow of secondary combustion air. Alternate air holes 48 are disposed horizontally and the intervening holes inclined inwardly and upwardly at an angle of 30-45 degrees. The body 10 is preferably octagonal in cross-section and a throat restricting tube 30 may be arranged longitudinally and centrally below the throat 12. The tube 30 is maintained at a red heat and is so located as to be visible when used in a space heater with a transparent door. Liquid fuel is supplied through tube 22 to a well 20 in the base of body 10 above which an electric ignition device 25, which may comprise a glow coil, and a preheat element 26 are arranged. The device 25 and element 26 are controlled by a thermally operated switch. A wick 24 of stainless steel may be provided. An outer casing 16 has an air inlet 36 immediately above which a fan 38 driven by motor 40 is located. To prevent chilling of the well 20 by incoming air, the top of the fan may be closed by a disc 381 or each of the fan blades may have a horizontal flange at its upper edge. Radiants 42 may be located adjacent the throat outlet. |
