The floating anti-pollution barrage has a series of identical cylindrical buoyant floats carrying metallic frames. From the frames are suspended a rubber cloth apron and the fixing chains. Anchorage chains extend to the river bed. A main resistance chain extends from bank to bank. A stability chain below the main chain keeps the apron vertical against tidal effects. Floats are connected by flexible connectors at intervals along the barrage. The end of the barrage chains, connected to the river bank can be released to open a navigation channel for ships. The barrage is particular for use across river estuaries and the like, to prevent ingress of floating pollutants from the sea, such as spilled oils.
|
