The mechanical overload security device is for a curtain drive mechanism and is in the form of a coupling which is pressed together by spring pressure (6) and is released on overload. The coupling flange (3) which is forced back on overload against the force of a compression spring (6) diverts the force towards the coupling disc (4) and is held in a released position by a bolt (14) which is engaged by the spring (15). The coupling flange (3) is held in this position until the safety bolt (14) is pushed back manually from its locked position.
