A method of spraying a flat surface, in particular an easily-disrupted web or felt of textile fibres, with droplets of treatment liquor or liquid produced by a totating spray roller from a film of liquid provided by an associated feed roller, which is in close proximity to, but not in contact with, the spray roller. The surface of the rollers, may be flat or profiled, and they are surrounded at least partially by a hood whose inner surface assists the atomising process. The rollers and liquid container may be provided with heaters for the application of hot-melt agents. The method produces a uniform spray across the complete width of the apparatus which has no tendency to disturb the surface to which it is applied. Droplets size can be easily regulated, and the apparatus is easily clean and maintain.
