<p>The combustion engine comprises a cylinder contg. two opposed-action reciprocating pistons. The output shaft reciprocates with the piston but rotates relative to them. This rotation is caused by three turbine discs which rotate due to the expansion during combustion. Two turbine wheels are fixed on the shaft and rotate in the same direction. A contra-rotating wheel between them rotates freely on the shaft, but is coupled by a gear wheel. Combustion takes place in the annular chamber between the cylinder and the piston bush and the expanding gas is admitted to the turbine wheels via an annular slot controlled by a spring-loaded closure.</p> |
