A single or multiple jet forming machine for papermaking having a slurry arrival box for one jet or a slurry arrival box of the type 'Converflo' (RTM) for a double jet, includes a lower fibre supporting metal gauze. This gauze carries the fibrous matter beneath an upper mobile unit around which an upper endless metal gauze band is driven. A suction box is provided, the suction surface of which is a convex curve in the plane parallel to the direction of motion of the fabric. The upper unit is adjustable vertically relatively to the bottom gauze and horizontally relatively to the direction of the flow of the paper. The upper gauze moving in contact with the suction box surface can be pressed against the lower gauze carrying the fibre, and the degree of dewatering of the fibre upwards and downwards through the respective bands can be controlled by the movement of the upper unit above the lower gauze. Arrangement produces very high quality webs of thin paper. The machine can work with a very thin slurry on account of its high capacity for the extraction of water upwards. The distribution of fines and fillings is uniform throughout the paper, both surfaces having the same colour and neither showing reverse side markings. |
