The alarm system for a motor vehicle has a signal generator connected to a switch actuated by the vehicle. A delay element produces an acoustic or optical alarm after a certain period. The driver and passager can leave the vehicle without undue haste, the alarm system being readied only after closing the last door. A signal store carries a signal by use of signal generators. The stored signal triggers the timing elements on the occurrence of another signal from the signal generator.
