<p>Simple oxysulphides of lanthanides Ln or solid soln. of oxysulphides of Ln and at least one element R that can form a tripositive ion, are made by contacting a simple sulphide of Ln and R, prepared as in the parent patent, with a gaseous mixt. of steam and a carrier gas at 600-800 degrees C. Mixed sulphides MLn2S4, or MxEu1-xS (where M is Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb, Cd, Mn or Zn, and where x is between 0 and 1), are made by the process of the parent patent, by contacting at below 800 degrees C, a mixed amorphous carbonate of M and Ln or Eu, in which the atom ratio M:Ln is 1:2 and of M:Eu is x:(1-x), with pure dry H2S.</p> |
