<p>Silanol end-stopped diorganopolysiloxane oils having a viscosity from 1,000 to 100,000 centipoise at 25.degree.C., where at least one of the organo substituent groups on the silicon atoms is an aliphatic radical of three or more carbon atoms are produced by reacting a cyclic tetrasiloxane, alone, or in admixture with a second cyclic polysiloxane, at a temperature in the range of 40 to 140.degree.C, in the presence of 5 to 300 parts per million of a catalyst selected from potassium hydroxide, cesium hydroxide, and silanolates thereof, and water. The products of the process are useful in producing room temperature curing silicone elastomers.</p> |
