Self-lubricating linings to fit the joint between a bull-ended laver or rod and a hollow steel coupling are made from a sheet material or moulding compound incorporating fibres of a material which is a good thermal conductor. Suitable for ball joints for e.g. automotible suspension or steering systems, the linings are prf. of PTFE and the conductive fibres are of graphite or of a metal such as brass or bronze. The lining may be made in one piece or as a pair of complementary concave sheels having rim dia. matched to that of the ball dia. The linings may be located by back pressure from a compressible elastic (rubber) annular seal mounted in the base of the hollos coupling. The linings may be engaged by lugs or ribs within the coupling to prevent the linings sliding relative to the couplings. The linings may be made of 'Fluoplast' (RTM), typically are 1.5-2 mm thick and used for joints working under peak thrust loads of >=3000 daN.
|
