<p>1333616 Indene derivatives MERCK & CO Inc 14 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 23406/73 Divided out of 1333614 Headings C2C and C2P The invention comprises indene derivatives of the Formulae 8, 8(a), 8(b), 8(c), 9, 10, 11 and 11(a) and their preparation by the reaction scheme below (R is C 1-6 alkyl) 2,6 - Dioxo - 4,5,6,7 - tetrahydro - 3 - indanheptanoic acid methyl ester 2-cyclic ethylene acetal is obtained by treating 6-methory-2-oxo-4,7-dihydro-3-indanheptanoic acid methyl ester 2-cyclic ethylene acetal with a weak acid, the latter ester being made by esterifying the corresponding free acid, obtained by the Birch reduction of 6- methoxy - 2 - oxo - 3 - indanheptanoic acid 2- cyclic ethylene acetal, resulting from the hydrolysis of the corresponding methyl ester, which is prepared by reacting ethylene glycol with 6- methoxy-2-oxo-3-indanheptanoic acid methyl ester, obtained by dehydrating the glycol produced by reacting osmium tetraoxide with 6-methoxy-3- indeneheptanoic acid methyl ester resulting from the isomerization of 6-methoxy-#<SP>3,10</SP>-indenheptanoic acid methyl ester, which is obtained by reacting methy-6-formylhexanoate with (6- methoxy - 3 - indanyl) - triphenylphosphonium bromide, obtained by reacting 6-methoxy-3- indanol with triphenylphosphine hydrobromide.</p> |
