PURPOSE:To prepare a drying oil useful as ink, paint, etc., in high yield, by irradiating a compound having non-conjugated double bonds with UV radiation in the presence of a specific catalyst, thereby isomerizing the compound to the one having conjugated double bonds. CONSTITUTION:A compound having two or more non-conjugated double bonds in the chain (e.g. linseed oil, sufflower oil, hempseed oil, 1,4-pentadiene, 1,4-hexadiene, butadiene oligomer having trans(cis)-1,4-bond and 1,2-bond, drying oil alkyd, rosin-modified alkyd, etc.) is isomerized to a compound having conjugated double bonds and useful as a substitute of tung oil, by irradiating with UV radiation in the presence of an isomerization catalyst comprising anthraquinones (e.g. anthraquinone). |
