1488070 Sheathing for tube-type electrodes VARTA BATTERIE AG 24 Nov 1975 [23 Nov 1974 11 June 1975] 48230/75 Heading H1B Sheathing for a tube-type electrode of a leadacid storage battery is made by forcing a liquid in which fibres or threads are suspended through the pores or openings of an outer porous supporting tube of the sheathing so that fibres or threads are retained in the pores or openings to partially close them and an inner barrier fleece layer of entangled fibres or threads is formed on the inner wall of the supporting tube. The outer tube may be of woven fibres of glass, synthetic resin or graphite or may be a porous sintered tube. The fleece is of fibres of glass, synthetic resin, e.g. polyester, or graphite 1-4 mm long and 1-5 Á thick, the fleece being 0À1-0À9 mm. thick. In making the two-layer tubes, the outer tube(s) may be plugged at one end and a slurry of the fibres in water, oil, thermosetting synthetic resin, starch solution or liquid adhesive is forced under pressure through the other end so that liquid passes out of the tube walls but the fibres are retained; alternatively a series of tubes may be connected at one end to an input header and to a common outlet at the other; this arrangement may be incorporated into an automated apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown). |
