The expanding device secures a handlebar bracket in an adjustable position inside a steering fork tube on a bicycle. A stem joins a support piece bearing against the bracket to a clamping piece, whose sloping upper face acts against a mating face on the bottom end of the bracket. This forces the cylindrical sidewall of the clamping piece against the inside wall of the fork tube. The upper face (12a) of the clamping piece (17a) is flattened off at the top.
