PURPOSE:To prepare a methoxysilane, particularly trimethoxysilane, industrially advantageously, by reacting silicon with methyl alcohol(M) in the presence of a copper catalyst in a solvent while maintaining the water content in M at a specific value or below. CONSTITUTION:Silicon is reacted with methyl alcohol containing 2,000ppm or less, preferably 1500ppm or less, of water in the reaction system, obtained by removing the water with a dehydrating agent, e.g. zeolite, or fractional distillation, in the presence of a copper catalyst in a solvent, preferably in an enclosed system to give a methoxysilane of formula I, II, III or IV, preferably III. The reaction temperature is preferably 150-200 deg.C to improve the selectivity of the compound of formula V. EFFECT:Particularly, trimethoxysilane is obtained with a high selectivity, conversion, and reaction rate of silicon. |
